In details

Silex is available as a standalone software. This is a “portable app” version, and it allows you to use Silex without installing anything but Silex itself. This can be useful if you want to avoid installing additional software, and carry your work and Silex on USB stick for example.

  1. Download Silex from the official website
  2. Unzip the archive using a decompression program for your operating system or using a free program like 7-zip
  3. click on “silex” – it is a .exe file on windows and a .app file on Mac Os

Run Silex out of the box with one click. Just unzip somewhere and click “silex.exe” (Windows) or “silex.app” (Mac). This will automatically start a local web server in the background and open a web browser with Silex installer. The installer will ask you for your personal password, which is the one you want to use to access Silex editor.

You can work directly on your hard drive or carry your Silex server and your publications on a usb stick. This version is for you:

  • designers and webmasters
  • windows and mac (and linux, use with a web server installed)
  • no software requirements

To publish your Silex sites, simply transfer the contents of directory “silex_server” in a folder accessible via the web.

This has changed in Silex v1.6.1

Run SILEX out of the box without any installation. Just unzip somewhere and click “silex-start-windows.bat” or “silex-start-mac.sh”. Work directly on your hard drive or carry your Silex server and your publications on a usb stick. Read more about Silex portable here http://www.silexlabs.org/?page_id=45
